Maser and Bodytonic are proud to present the work of Dundalk-based graffiti artists Kube and Omin. Painting commercially and as a passionate hobby, Kube and Omin have been painting the countries walls for the past 13 years, bringing graffiti art to their hometown and nationwide, as well as being established on the international scene.

Using a wide range of media, including spray painted canvas, acrylic and oil paintings and photographic pieces to fully showcase the vibrancy, movement and technical skill that comes with this very new and rapidly moving art form.

Kube and Omin have painted for a vast array of major companies, brands, festivals and arts organisations. Working commercially doing commissions and brand promotion the pair have been submitting their artwork to internationally circulated magazines for the past 10 years, gaining them work overseas aswell as representing the Irish Graffiti art scene on an worldwide platform.

Graffiti art by its very nature is something that the public see and admire but yet mystery surrounds the rhyme and reason to why and how it is done. Since its beginings in the 70’s, Graffiti art has been a voice for young artists to display their talents on a public stage without reward, whilst risking prosecution in some cases to express themselves.

Using such a wide range of mediums – Kube and Omin hope to visually demonstrate the essence of Graffiti art through their own styles and skills. From sketches used on past murals, to photographs of walls, to graffiti art on canvas – all facets of the artform will be displayed and will give a visual narrative to their 13 years of non-stop graffiti art exploits.

This is the first show of its kind to be held in Twisted Pepper basement and promises to be one of most animated and interesting uses of the space to date. Kube and Omin will be displaying original pieces for this show in addition to painting some of the gallery walls and creating a more unique atmosphere to the space.

Me and the Yankes in Belfast?

On Monday April the 13th history was made as 19 international artist gathered to paint the famous "Peace Line" in Belfast, Northern Ireland.The Belfast "Peace Line" was constructed to curb the violence between Nationalist's and Republican's many years prior.

Although the wall has seen it's fair share of stones thrown, bullets and petrol bomb's, Monday exposed the wall to bombing of a peaceful type. "This project has always been a dream of mine... virgin concrete over a kilometer long separating the republican and loyalist traditions for years in west belfast. dubbed the peace line a funny name for a huge wall that reminds you of prison perimeter with scars from Molotov coctails, ak 47s,petrol bombs ,nail bombs and 357 magnum rounds." said RASK, Co-Organizer of the event.

Northern Ireland particularly belfast has a rich history of murals that document the atrocities, celebrate the victories ,honour the dead and make martyrs of people who have all been involved in what is known as the troubles.

Since the peace agreement some years ago many of the people who were involved with the conflict have been released and have began working in their communites. Rask met with an ex prisoner group as far back as 2004 on the loyalist side of the divide these guys had realized that the murals cast a shadow on the younger generation. "Change had to come the violent imagery had to go and we agreed that writers could produce a mural different from the existing ones .i was honoured to be part of that piece of history as we painted over an ulster freedom fighters wall." Rask said

"The people in the area were amazed offering us cups of tea ,ladders and use of bathrooms. for the kids they loved it and were amazed to meet people of different religions and nationalities working in their area. We produced a mural celbrating Belfast hidden treasures, achievements not tied up in the conflict. This wall became the catalyst for many more walls in the area and in time we were offered the peace line."

In 2009 I decided with my involvement in a jam in Dublin with all city records that I would combine the 2 events and bring many of the writers to Belfast.i have been involved with jams since 1994 whn I began organizing the bridge event in Drogheda www.bridgejam.tk / www.myspace.com/bridgejam I have worked with Dris TDS from Belfast,old school writer with the drive and productivity better than most young guys before on projects so together we negotiaited with the community activists and agreed a theme and so easter Sunday 2009 we arrived a raggle taggle bunch of 19 writers from across the globe and for the first time in the long history of this wall it received a full colour transformation carrying a message of peace and taking away the imposing look of this battle scarred wall...

the reaction of the local who honked driving by, the tourists who photographed us in their droves and the local who passed us out beer all made this a special experience , we did something good, something big, bigger than just a great production we took that wall way and what it stands for and we left a message of peace! The ultimate plan is to take this whole all out and when I finsh that I will do the other side because this has to include all the communities and there are more wall like this dotted around Belfast that we must take out using the model of our graffiti culture to educate the young kids . we might have all left now and gone back to our normal day to day but that mural stands proud for all to see we came we saw we conquered. Love the country, lifestyle and people, Alcohol controls our social life in Dublin and represses our creativity, I'm a victim of it too but when I travel to these countries and paint with my friends from there, I realise there are other ways to entertain yourself on this wet dark evenings.

Claiming to preserve the "gestures" of graffiti writers, Halo is an LED light-writing tool created by Parisian Aïssa Logerot. Found at Animal it is said to be as usless as the Wii spray.

I must admit the Wii-spary looks pretty sad and useless and just seems to be yet another "try-hard" accessory. Halo on the other had I think has plenty of photographic potential. Executed in the right way I reckon it'll be a favourite with the big graf magazines and street-art photographers. I can see all the old skool Graffiti legends getting to display their infamous tags through the speed of light.

Check out the possibilities of drawing with light. It may not be super fast intricate old skool tags but it is Picasso. Photos taken by LIFE magazine in 1949.

I've traveling across europe with the Vogue machine, painting every city we visit. In Slovenia now, painted yesterday in Metelkova Mesto. It was the location of military barracks of the Yugoslav People's Army. After Slovenia declared independence and the Yugoslav army left, the place was squatted by several artists, musicians, students, etc. and became somewhat of a centre for underground/alternative culture.

Within the area there are plenty of small walls, corners or buildings, door ways to leave your mark. I had the pleasure of seeing in the flesh one of Gliwice pieces, a polish graffiti writer. Here are a few other pieces of his. So un-designed to a T! I almost hope people don't like this sort of graf, so I can have it all for myself.
